What fourteen years of it actually teaches you

Five families, back to back, since 2011. Two little girls she has cared for from the day they came home, and when that family moved across the country she moved with them, so that the one thing in those girls’ lives that did not change was who came through the door in the morning.

That is where this app comes from. Not from theory, and not from a curriculum. From knowing what a Tuesday actually looks like when the nap gets missed, when the weather turns, when you have an hour to fill and nothing left in you to fill it with.

Why she is building it

A nanny helps one family at a time. That is the job, and it is a good one, but it has a hard ceiling. Everything she has worked out over fourteen years about routines that survive a bad night, about how to hand a day over to somebody else in three sentences, about what to do at four in the afternoon in the rain, has only ever reached the handful of homes she has stood in.

Early Days is that knowledge, written down, for anybody looking after a small child. Parents, other nannies, and the grandparents who get handed the afternoon on a Thursday.

What she is, and what she is not

She is a career nanny, certified in CPR and AED for infants, children and adults, and in First Aid. She is not a doctor, and the app never pretends otherwise. That is exactly why every guide in it is checked against the bodies that do this properly, and why anything medical is sent to your pediatrician instead of answered.

There is no chart anywhere in the app. Nothing is scored, nothing is compared to another child, and it will never tell you that yours is behind. Milestones are shown as the wide ranges they actually are, because that is the truth and because a worried parent at midnight deserves the truth rather than a percentile.
